Hello Friends.

Me and Lish are going camping in New Mexico in a couple days. I'm a camping virgin, and when it comes to packing, I'm at a loss for what I should take.

We're going to camp out in Parque Venado in the Santa Fe National Forest near Cuba, New Mexico. So far, I have a sleeping bag, a giant hat, and a tent. I need bug repellent, a suitable backpack, a vessel for water, possibly a little stove, lots of rope to dry out laundry, and food for 4 days in the woods.

I'm trying to pack as light as possible, since we need to schlep all this crap up hills and such.

Does anyone have any camping tips? What other crap do I need to get?

Bring tons of water. You can get it as a grocery store there.

I have a frame backpack that you're welcome to borrow.

I have to wonder how many bugs there are in the desert.

Oh, can I get my Dr Who DVDs back before you go? Someone else wants to borrow them.

Um, I think there are things that will bite me like scorpions and bears in the desert. We're going to be in a forest with grass and trees and shit.

There shouldn't be many bugs unlike camping in MN. It would be tough to carry enough water for 4 days. Bring whiskey instead of beer, it isn't as heavy. Oh and sunscreen, duh.

flashlight, blister pads (like band-aids for blisters and amazing), whistle, compass, utility knife, first-aid kit

if you are hiking the whole time, you won't be able to carry 4 days of water, it is too heavy. Thus you will need to pull from streams or lakes, so make sure they have those. Bring a way to filter/treat water. what kinds of temperatures are you expecting? get a headlamp, dry food is your friend cause it is light, and consider your footwear.
